Here’s the perfect combination: daytime mountain travel (with snowshoes down low and crampons above treeline) and a night of winter camping on the mountainside. We’ll prepare for the trip by covering proper route planning and equipment selection, then head into the mountains. That afternoon, we’ll establish a high campsite within striking distance of some of the major peaks of the White Mountains or the Adirondacks. First there’s a great evening meal and a night in the tent, then we’ll break camp after breakfast the next day and head for treeline. With your guide, you’ll take an active role in determining how the weather forecast, the trail conditions and the party’s fitness all influence the choice of routes, and which peaks we’ll summit.
Topics Covered: planning for winter camping, selecting the right gear and clothing, route planning and navigation, setting up camp and cooking in the winter, efficient mountain travel techniques
