New Paltz

The Gunks
An hour and a half north of New York City lies one of the nation’s premier rock climbing epicenters and a location of the EMS Climbing School. The Shawangunks or the ‘Gunks’ is nestled into the quiet little village of New Paltz, New York, in the beautiful Hudson Valley. The cliffs are located within the Historic Mohonk Preserve where you can also bike, run, or take a leisurely horse drawn carriage ride along the miles of gently rolling carriage roads. When you’re not enjoying the incredible rock or ice climbing options or if the rest of the family is coming along, there is a multitude of outdoor activities abound. Beautiful hikes, great fishing, and quiet canoe rides are just some of the options. In the evenings and on rest days explore the town! You can find a wide variety of shops, antiques and dine in the many of the fine restaurants within the villages of Stoneridge, High Falls, and Rosendale.

Overnight options may include the lovely Mohonk Mountain House, The Hudson Valley Resort or at one of the regions many motels (Super 8, Econo Lodge).
